OH, Forks!™ In the Garden…
Gardening. Some days it’s my only out. My only bit of sanity where I can stop thinking about every single thing, and just focus on growing. On nature. Where I can connect to something I feel close to… our earth and feeding my people the healthiest things I can. This week, it’s too entirely hot to move, or breathe, so my gardening is pushed to the front of my to-do list, as early in the morning as I can manage. I’ve kept a pretty good routine so far this growing season, and have attempted many new things with success.
This morning I picked another pound of green beans, which means we’re up to 4 pounds picked to date! We had our first red cherry tomatoes a few days ago, which I let my youngest devour. She moaned, groaned and smiled all the way through it. That makes my heart smile. 🙂 Today I picked more tomatoes, peppers, snap peas, and some fresh herbs.
I’m planning on giving winter gardening a real shot this year, and I’ve also begun seeding out my plants. This simply means I’m doing my best to provide my own GMO free, organically dealt with seeds for next years’ crops. So far we’ve managed collard greens, some peppers, and onion seeds. My tomato seed success rate is huge, as this year- on top of the 36 tomato plants I planted on purpose, I’ve got 13 plants growing sporadically throughout the garden beds from last year’s self-planted seeds!
Here are a few pictures from two of the garden beds as of this morning. The tomato plants are now taller than me, and my spaghetti squash plants are climbing to the sun!
