OH, Forks!™ January 2019: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

We are busily planning and prepping for a busy 2019 market & event season with lots of new goods and items available at varying times throughout the year! Our scheduled events will be posting on our Facebook event page over the next few months as we determine where all we will be! There are a few places and events listed there already & we cannot wait for those! We are new to BloomFest in Leo this year and we are returning to the Gypsy Soul Vintage Market in April at the North Plex in Fort Wayne! We are planning some in-booth demos, samplings and presentations on the lifestyle of gluten-free everything! Watch our pages for more details on all upcoming events!

Pie?! What?! Who needs a vegan pie?!

Diets! Diets! Diets!

Do you consider the way you eat a lifestyle? Or a diet? Or, like me, are you just eating to survive?

We’ve been getting lots of questions lately about the “diets” we serve, so I figured we’d better just address the topic this way! The only “diet” we solely focus on and support is being gluten free. To us, this is no longer a ‘diet’ but a way of life we have been at for twelve years. Personally, we also avoid dairy, processed sugars, grain, red meat, smoked things, and a whole list of other edibles, too. We dabble in vegan cuisine occasionally, and LOVE holistic things. (I mean, have you tried our Elderberry Elixir yet!?) And personally, my medical issues make food one of the most hellish things I deal with on a daily basis due to my severe motility issues, which is why I cannot even eat certain things I make for markets!

Due to the mass of dietary issues we have personally faced over the years, this has given us the knowledge to be flexible enough in our recipes and allows us to conform & adjust to others’ dietary needs, too. We don’t use preservatives, soy, corn or GMO ingredients. We can easily do dairy free and most of the time can completely vegan-ize our recipes. There are a few that are not possible to do this to currently, but it is something we are always working on. We are adding more sugar free (Diabetic friendly), low carb, and Keto goods to the menu. Certain items we have are nut free, although many are nut-based to avoid grains and flour. We’ve also done casein free, lecithin free and special orders with requests to leave out certain flours. While I’m being honest, anything involving Stevia or erythritol are not my favorites, but I am always up for a challenge for my customers! 

The news coverage of some of these diets does not affect us or our thoughts on these diets. We support whatever diet you choose for yourself and will try to accommodate your needs whenever we can.

In my dreams… For the record, certified kitchens are not always this massive and our needs would be minimal compared to this!

Commercial Kitchens & Growth!

We are still searching for and plotting for our best methods of growth in the future. We have had numerous requests from local businesses to stock and sell our goods in their eateries and businesses, but I cannot find a commercial kitchen that is not: already overly full, already filled with gluten, requires my bake times to be from 1am to 8am each day, or ensures that my stored-goods would remain away from others’ gluten-filled goods to use. It’s a tough place for a gluten free baker/chef, but one I will continue to work on!

If you are a business who has a state-certified kitchen that has minimal use or is entirely gluten-free that is rent-able for use each week, please contact us! I am very open to renting, partnering with, or working out some sort of deal with any business, church, or other local organization that works with and in our local community!

New OH, Forks! Market Goods, Orderables & Online Bakery Updates!

It’s true! We are in the updating and new goods portion of our season! Look for new goods to be posting in our online bakery for special orders and for our upcoming markets and events! During this time we will also be adjusting some of our listings, updating ingredient lists and nutritional labels, making our dietary options easier to find and order!

The newest cookbook, OH, Forks!™ Soups, Stews & Smoothies will be out sometime in 2019! It has taken a side-burner seat to my other main job has a very large project we are getting ready to release, which I have been working on for YEARS! It is amazing to get to be a part of something that is going to benefit SO many people and my customers locally that I cannot wait to share it with everyone!
